Child Protection Statement of Commitment
Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:
- Early help and support â providing timely help to meet childrenâs needs as soon as concerns emerge, preventing issues from escalating and ensuring coordinated support across agencies.
- Protection from harm â protecting children from maltreatment, abuse, neglect and exploitation, whether occurring within the home, in the community, at school or online.
- Preventing impairment â preventing the impairment of childrenâs physical health, mental health, emotional wellbeing and overall development, recognising the impact of trauma and adversity.
- Safe and effective care â ensuring children grow up in circumstances that provide safe, stable, nurturing and effective care, with particular attention to vulnerable groups and contextual safeguarding factors.
- Best outcomes â taking decisive, childâcentred action to enable all children to achieve the best possible outcomes, including educational achievement, personal development, safety, resilience and longâterm wellbeing.
Children includes everyone under the age of 18.
At St Cuthbert’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all our pupils. The Governing Body recognises this and their duty as set out in in Section 175 / 157 of the Education Act 2002 and as schools within our Catholic Archdiocese. We recognise that:
- the welfare of children is paramount in all the work we do and in all the decisions we take all children, regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation have an equal right to protection from all types of harm or abuse.
- some children are additionally vulnerable because of the impact of previous experiences, their level of dependency, communication needs or other issues.
- working in partnership with children, young people, their parents, carers and other agencies is essential in promoting young peopleâs welfare.
Our schools and staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children. Safeguarding is everybody’s responsibility. As such, the Child Protection Policy applies to all within our school communities and all policies produced.
“We need to see each child as a gift to be welcomed, cherished and protected.” â Pope Francis

Statutory Policies
All of our school policies provide a clear and consistent framework that guides every aspect of life at St Cuthbertâs Catholic Primary School, including our Extended School Provision (Breakfast Club and After School Club). They ensure that our shared values, principles and expectations are applied with integrity, supporting highâquality learning, care and personal development.
Our policies clearly set out standards for behaviour, wellbeing and inclusion, ensuring that children experience a secure, nurturing and purposeful environment at all times. Through rigorous safeguarding measures, they also define clear expectations and accountability, enabling staff to protect and support every child effectively.
Together, these policies create a unified approach that strengthens our Catholic ethos, promotes positive relationships and ensures that high standards are maintained.
