St Cuthbert’s is currently part of the Mastering Number Programme. The project aims to secure firm foundations in the development of good number sense for all children, from Reception through to Year 1 and Year 2. The aim over time is that children will leave KS1 with fluency in calculation and a confidence and flexibility with number. Attention will be given to key knowledge and understanding needed in Reception and progression through KS1, to support success in the future.

This academic year, our Year 4 and Year 5 children are taking part in the NCETM Mastering Number Programme which aims to deepen pupils’ understanding and confidence in mathematics. The focus of the programme is to secure fluency in multiplication and division facts, enabling children to build strong foundations for more complex mathematical concepts. Through carefully designed daily practice and engaging activities, the programme supports pupils in developing efficiency, accuracy, and flexibility in their mathematical thinking. By strengthening these key skills, children will be well-prepared to apply their knowledge across the curriculum and in real-life problem-solving.

We are excited to see the positive impact this programme will have on our pupils’ mathematical confidence and progress.
